Besides being a lucrative commodity, coffee is a relationship-builder! In this third episode of my coffee journey with you, it is time to dive into the social and cultural power that coffee plays. In social and cultural exchanges, coffee serves us well not only as a drink re-loading us while rewinding (yes!) during a shorter or longer break but also as a bridge between people; friends, families, strangers at a coffee shop, neighbours, communities, you name it.
From my cultural upbringing, I learned at an early age that coffee is deeply intertwined with culture and community, symbolizing hospitality while being a catalyst for conversations. There was always a pot on, and guests dropped in by daily at any time for coffee. Growing up in a home where coffee played a central role, I embraced the beans that fuel most of our daily rituals early on in life. Not fully though at first.
Even before entering our kitchen in the morning, I was welcomed by the most alluding scent I have ever felt slippering up my nose. Of course, I wanted a taste of the beverage my parents had in front of them filling our entire home with coziness. Imagine my disappointment when the flavors in my mouth did not match the scent in my nose.
